Trading notes: Good quality, very talkative people seated next to the master, recording starts off with the master saying, “Bill Owens, Princeton, New Jersey, April 28th 1973. The following tape recording of the current Broadway hit musical, A Little Night Music, was made from the audience in the Sam S. Shubert Theatre West 44th Street, New York on Monday evening, April 23rd 1973. The show was produced and directed by Harold Prince with music and lyrics with Stephen Sondheim and booked by Hugh Wheeler. The orchestra was directed by Hal Hastings with Jonathan Tunick's arrangements. Starred were Glynis Johns, Len Cariou, Hermione Gingold with Vicky Mallory, Patricia Elliott, Laurence Guittard, and Mark Lambert being featured. A Little Night Music won the 1973 Tony Award for best musical. Other Tony winners were Glynis Johns, Patricia Elliot, Steve Sondheim for score, Hugh Wheeler for book, and Florence Klotz for costumes. Speed is 3¾ IPS, tape Scotch, model 207 1 mil. Machine is Revox A77. Recording location was second row center behind the conductor. Now for A Little Night Music in New York, Shubert Theatre.” MP3 (untracked) - 347 MB (1 file) is the complete master copy. Mislabeled with the date February 28th 1973 Matinee, the MP3 (tracked) - 201 MB (75 files) copy is very high pitch and is missing lots of parts.

The audio is very clear despite actors not being mic-ed. Not much background noise other than the occasional person beside or behind me adjusting/coughing. Great recording of a great show! Master's notes: World premiere run of this brand new musical by Matthew C. Yee. Honestly, this was one of the best shows I have seen in 2023. The way it tackles stereotypes and some real world evils while still remaining lighthearted and hilarious is just... awesome. Everyone should listen. I cannot bear the thought of this show never being performed again. There is a short scene in Act 1 performed in Mandarin. An English translation taken straight from the show is included in the tracked Act 1 folder. Album artwork by MediumObservation. Hooray! Lucy and Charlie just got hitched…and they’re embracing the worst of the American dream. They do what they want. Take what they want. They’re First Generation Asian American Renegades. In love. And on the run... Lucy and Charlie’s Honeymoon tracks a young couple as they rev it down quintessentially American highways and across stereotypic borders, fleeing expectation and trawling up trouble along the way.
