Trading notes: This is all-new, re-imagined production of West Side Story, and the first Broadway production to use new choreography not based on Jerome Robbins' original. It also eliminates the songs I Feel Pretty and the Somewhere Ballet and uses the version of America heard in the 1961 film. Additionally, the show runs without an intermission. Filmed from the balcony. No zooms or pans, just a full stage shot. Heads appear in the bottom 1/3 of the frame but don't really get in the way. Disc also includes a TV teaser recorded on Nov 28, 2019 and 6 audio clips of West Side Story songs sung by different artists (Something's Coming by Barbra Streisand; America by Natalie Cole, Patti LaBelle, and Sheila E; Maria by Johnny Mathis; Tonight by Audra McDonald and Mandy Patinkin; A Boy Like That by Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett; and I Feel Pretty by Little Richard). Trading notes: A frustratingly obstructed full show video capture of this Pre-Broadway tour. Act 2 is MUCH better than act 1, capturing much more action and a lot of beautiful closeups. You cant see much of anything for the first 10 minutes due to obstruction, and there are a few very brief dropouts in both acts. Audio is crystal clear for both acts. Very performance heavy wherever possible, with close-ups and focus on individual performers whenever within view. A must see for anyone wanting a good look at each actors performance, but not a good introductory video to the show.
